An inflatable mattress is an irreplaceable thing. Whether you are going on a hike or to a summer cottage; on vacation closer to the sea or waiting for the invasion of relatives – it can be used everywhere.
Unfortunately, like anything, the mattress can get damaged, and then the question arises: “What to do if the air mattress is deflated?”
You can fix the problem, but first, you need to find out the cause.

Why is the inflatable mattress deflated? Intex Air Mattress Bulge
New Mattress could have Bulge
Cases are different, sometimes even a brand new mattress can be disappointing. Imagine that you go to bed on a newly bought, carefully inflated mattress, and in the morning you find yourself on the floor – it deflated overnight. What to do?
First, you yourself could be the reason: you did not tighten the valve well. You can check with a soapy water solution. To do this, we process the valve directly with it and, if bubbles appear, then we tighten it tighter.
A mattress can Be Returned
And if the mattress (“Intex”, for example) is blown off due to a manufacturing defect? In this case, it can be returned or exchanged under warranty.
Check Your Mattress
It may take some time, and then suddenly your mattress, which has never failed before, begins to deflate. Check the valve immediately and if it leaks, buy, and install a new one.
It can be purchased in a store or ordered through an online store, which is much more practical and economical. If everything is in order with the valve, the reason is obvious: a puncture has formed in the mattress and must be found. This can be done in three proven ways:
- Fill the tub with water and lower the slightly inflated mattress into it. In the place where air bubbles appear, a fistula has formed. Unfortunately, a bathtub will not work for a large double mattress, so we try the next method.
- We smear the previously inflated mattress with water and soap foam and look where air bubbles appear. This method is not very practical (you will have to wash away soap stains) and is not always effective if the surface of the mattress is fleecy.
- The most effective way is to check with ordinary water, which we pour into the mattress (you can directly from the tap, or you can use a kettle) – five liters – we pump it up and start twirling so that the water is distributed throughout the mattress. On the velor surface, the puncture will appear as a wet speck, and water will appear on the smooth surface.
How to repair an Intex air mattress bulge?
Manufacturers of air mattresses such as Intex and Bestway supply most models with a (temporary) repair kit, but if there is none, you can seal the fistula in the mattress yourself.
The most common mistake is applying a thick layer of glue. You don’t need to do this! A thin layer will ensure a reliable connection of the patch with the main material, and a thick layer will dry for a long time and a strong connection will not work.
If you want to repair the Intex air mattress bulge
- The damaged area of the mattress must be carefully leveled on a smooth surface
- Apply a patch to the damaged area and outline the contour
- The cut patch should be 2-4 cm larger than the damaged area
- Apply the glue in a thin layer to the main surface and the patch. Let it dry. Apply again on a layer of glue, let it dry and you can start gluing.
- Don’t forget to put something heavy on your patch.
- We leave the mattress for a day until the glue is completely dry.
If your air mattress deflates overnight, you don’t have to run to a specialist. You can independently identify the cause and eliminate it with your own hands!
